Software has eaten the world,’ wrote Marc Andreessen in 2011, "but now artificial intelligence is eating software.
Writing code has always required years of study and experience, whereas today we just need to describe what we want to see the machine program itself. From GitHub Copilot to start-ups such as Cursor and Replit, let's take a look at how not only the profession of programmer is being redefined, but also what it means to create technology today.

Francesco Maria De Collibus, who holds degrees in Philosophy and Computer Science and a PhD in Economics, has been working in the IT sector for twenty years. He is currently Enterprise Architect at AXA in the Canton of Zurich. Author of books, patents and scientific publications, he writes about technology for various newspapers. He is the author of ‘La macchina che si autoprogramma. In quali mani finirà l'innovazione?’ (Egea, 2025).
