Watch the recording of the meeting with Mariasole Bianco that took place at STEP FuturAbility District as part of the scientific and cultural program. Content only available in Italian language.

A journey of discovery exploring the sea, its wonders, its problems and the solutions available to us to change course. Mariasole Bianco will introduce us to the hidden treasures of the sea, beginning with its importance to our lives.

Perhaps not everybody knows that over 50% of the oxygen we breathe comes from the sea, which regulates the climate of the planet and represents an essential source of sustenance for billions of people. We will look at the problems that threaten the health of the sea, from climate change to pollution, from overfishing to the loss of biodiversity. Finally, we will talk about the solutions available to us to change tack and go from being part of the problem to part of the solution.

Communicator and expert on the protection and conservation of marine environments, after her specialist studies in Australia during which she was involved in the management of protected marine areas, Mariasole Bianco returned to Italy in 2013 to share her knowledge and expertise for the safeguarding of the Mediterranean.

She is co-founder and chairman of the Worldrise association, active in the safeguarding of marine ecosystems with awareness raising projects that promote the reconnection of man and nature, promoting the training of the future generations of custodians of the Mediterranean ecosystem. She has taught about the natural environment at the University of Genoa and since 2012 has been a member of the World Commission on Protected Areas of the IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature. In 2019 she was awarded the DonnAmbiente prize and chosen as moderator of the United Nations World Oceans Day. Named by Forbes as one of Italy’s 100 most successful women, in 2020 she was awarded the “Trofeo del Mare” prize. Since 2015 she has been a regular guest on the Rai3 programme “Kilimangiaro”, in 2020 she presented the programme “L’Italia non finisce mai” on Rai1, and in June of the same year she released her first book, “Pianeta Oceano” published by Rizzoli, which examines the wonders of the ocean environment, the problems that afflict it and the solutions that would enable us to protect it. Released in 2021, the cartoon “Acquateam-missione mare” in which she stars was nominated for numerous international prizes.

Programme appointments must be booked and this can be done online, subject to availability.
